For a while there I thought we were going to be the first Club to nail a hide to the clean, white wall. Not to be, but by crikey, the boys were good. Sheeo took the reins for the day while Gonzo caught his breath. Kicking to the High School end, there was a slight right to left breeze. Joe at CHB and Tater on the ball showed good early signs. Diesel was lively across half forward. A bit of argy-bargy with Ferg involved resulted in a downfield free to JC, who kicked truly. Moo had started in the ruck and was having a positive impact. ReeShe had his head pulled off and was awarded a free deep in the right forward pocket. Hard up against the fence, he slotted a major. Someone told Jack Linna that a kick-out added to his stats. Wrong! The Echo was in the pivot and working as hard as anyone. Sheeo was very happy with the effort and singled out Linna, Ferg and Diesel for their contributions. Qtr time scores 2.2 to 3.4. Ferg and Hicksie were getting plenty of the pill and Joe and Bowlsie were on top of their respective opponents. KeeShe laid a crunching tackle but was inexplicably pinged for it. As Kamahl once asked “… why are men (in white) so unkind?” Following a goal there was a dust-up on our half back flank which looked interesting to everyone except the Men In White. They went straight to the centre and tossed it up! A Moo-tap to Tater and a long kick inside the 50 found Trenna. He goaled and it seemed to refocus the Felines somewhat. A Finley centre clearance was captured by Joe at half back. He loaded up the barrel. Bang! The breeze was heading to Jerilderie and we were on it. Kuza, moving like a startled gazelle, gathered at CHF and with a deft handball to the running Trenna, we were in the goal square. A free to Big Jack resulted in our fourth. That put a smile on Sheeo’s dial. Half time scores 4.5 to 6.9. The endeavour was unquestionable as was the commitment. We just needed to tidy up our turnovers. Ferg was enjoying himself. He was even cracking ‘one-liners’ about the height impaired. Becky gathered and ran off the half back line. The Echo had run hard and found himself unmanned just short of the forward 50. JC presented and was found. He claimed his second. Three quarter time scores 5.6 to 8.17. Time to roll the dice – Joe forward, Barto back and a few strategic tweaks. Hicksie had been good all day. Diesel laid a tackle which saw the ball spill to Tater. He located the Echo who marked at half forward. Outside 50, with the breeze at his back, he went back and launched a monster that sailed over the railing for full points. It was a great display of our character and our persistent pressure went a long way to contributing to their poor kicking. Final scores 6.7 to 8.23. Youse da Blues? Youse lose
