JERVOIS VS IMPERIALS 1/8/2015
Jervois were kicking to the river end, but it was really a battle of defences for the first 10 minutes, until Imperial’s Zeb Kenny got on his own and goaled. Then Jordan Hollitt for Imperials found the goals. Jervois were trying to go forward, but the Imperials defence was standing firm. Jordan Hollitt again stood up and kicked a great goal while being tackled. It looked like it was going to be a long day for Jervois, but ruckman Fraser Thorn won the ruck tap to Zac Makins, who hand balled to Brett White, who was running past, he found Josh Coulter, who only scored a point. Imperials cleared, but Casey Robins intercepted the ball, a series of hand balls followed until Josh Coulter got his hands on it, was awarded a free kick and he scored Jervois’ first goal. Again Brett White got the ball from centre, a few hand balls followed until Scott Chandler kicked to Josh Coulter and he goaled again. Imperials defence stood up as Jervois went forward again and again until Tim Hartmann for Jervois ran forward, and the players under pressure managed to find Josh Coulter, who again goaled. Imperials, went forward and Ryan Edwards, followed by Luke Harrowfield goaled. It was a game in bursts up to this point, Imperials, then Jervois and then Imperials again. Jervois got the ball out of centre and got it to Coulter who took a great grab over two players and he scored his and Jervois’ fourth goal of the quarter. Quarter time scores Imperiasl 5-1 to Jervois 4-1.
Jordan Hollitt began the quarter with another goal, as he seemed to be in the right place at the right time, then he again found the ball and kicked long to the goals to find Tim Sumner, who marked, but did not score. The ball came out and Jordan Hollitt again marked, but couldn’t find the distance. Imps had the ball in their forward line and finally Luke Harrowfield goaled, and then Tim Sumner found Jordan Hollitt again for another goal. Jervois had to rally, as Imps were attacking hard. They went forward for only a point, and Imps rebounded, only to find Brett White impassable for Jervois in defence. Finally, as Jervois were under immense pressure, Coulter found Peter Zarantonello, who found Matt Schmidt who goaled. Jervois got the ball out of centre, only to be repelled by Imperials defence, who found Tim Sumner for his first goal. Jervois stepped up, and Matt Schmidt found Owen Love running past who, with a burst of speed, kicked a great running goal. Imperials again went forward and Tim Sumner took a great grab to again goal. Jervois went forward and really mucked around with the ball until Matt Schmidt decided to kick a goal. It was an entertaining game and Imperials at half time held the lead 10-1 to 7-3.
Jervois made some changes, the main one of Rick Fisher onto Jordan Hollitt and this paid off. Jervois began the quarter attacking, but Imps were holding firm, with James Clark playing well in defence. Tim Sumner was having a great battle with Jervois’ Mitchell Noye, and Sumner marked, but could only kick a point. James Clark, again was prominent, and found Luke Harrowfield who kicked a good goal. The pace of the game seemed to step up a notch and Jervois goaled through Owen Love, and then Casey Robins found Josh Coulter with a clever kick and he goaled. Jordan Hollitt, kicked what looked like a long goal, but it was touched for a point. Both teams had turns attacking, but the defences held up, until Luke Harrowfield found some space and goaled. Imperials attacked hard, and had a point to Henry Hodge, another Harrowfield goal, and another point to Sumner. Jervois attacked again, found the ball coming out but Josh Noye intercepted the ball, in the pocket, and kicked a goal to keep Jervois in touch. Ryan Edwards for Imperials took a good mark at centre half forward and goaled. Tim Sumner marked, but had the ball taken from him for an indescretion, but Jervois ran out of time to score. Three quarter time Imperials were still in front 14-5 to Jervois 10-3.
Imperials started the final quarter well, with a goal to Henry Hodge, then Owen Love for Jervois kicked a goal, although under enormous pressure. Imps,Harrowfield went forward, but Matt Schmidt had other ideas and took a great mark in defence, again Owen Love goaled, and then Casey Robins followed and Jervois were right in the match. Jervois just kept on attacking, as they could sense a win. Imperials went forward, but Mitchell Noye, took a mark to stop their run. Brad Oats for Imps found Ryan Edwards, who got the ball to Tim Sumner and he goaled to give Imps breathing space. Jervois just kept coming and Owen Love found Josh Coulter who kicked truly to put Jervois 12 points down. Again Jervois went forward for no score, and then they kicked a point. Owen Love and Josh Coulter had taken the game by the scruff of the neck and Love kicked another goal for Jervois and there less than a kick in the game. The ball went back to centre, Jervois kept trying to go forward, while the Imperial players were just jumping on the ball. The siren went, with the ball in the Jervois forward line, as the umpire paid a free kick to Jervois player Peter Zarantonello. He went back to take the kick, the Imperials and Jervois players were jostling on the goal line as Zarantonello kicked a great kick. The Jervois players all went up, the Imperials players all dropped their heads, the Jervois crowd went wild, and then every eye on the ground went to the goal umpire, who indicated a point. For Jervois, it was not to be. Imperials 16-5 to Jervois 15-8.
JERVOIS VS MENINGIE 18/7/2015
Jervois were kicking up hill, and attacked straight away, but their disposal was terrible. After several tries they finally found Josh Coulter who goaled. Aiden Rossiter in ruck for Jervois was winning the ruck taps and sending Jervois forward through Josh Noye and Scott Chandler. Troy Miller for Meningie proved to be elusive, and he found Cyril Trevorrow, who couldn’t make the distance. Josh Benbow had a shot at goal for a point. Jervois’ backline were holding firm as Meningie were attacking hard, finally Brian Fenton pushed forward to find Brad Eagle who kicked a goal from an impossible angle.
Josh Noye for Jervois found Josh Coulter, who found Matt Schmidt alone in front of goals, and he scored easily. Scott Chandler goaled for Jervois, after a he was given an easier shot for goal from a 50 metre penalty. Jake Liston was trying to get Meningie going, but Jervois defender Lewis Aunger was holding firm. Jervois got the ball from centre through Zac Makins, who found Matt Schmidt running forward, and he kicked over the top of the Meningie defender to Josh Coulter, who snapped a great goal. Meningie again went forward with Rhys Smart kicking a great running goal, and then Josh Benbow kicked a goal from an amazing snap over his shoulder. Jervois, were not to be denied and Owen Love grabbed the ball, kicked a long ball to Brett White, who found Josh Coulter on his own, he had two bounces and kicked an easy goal. Meningie got another goal through Dean Rossi, running through the forward lines. At quarter time Jervois were 5-0, to Meningie 4-2.
The game tightened up this quarter, and wasn’t as free scoring. Meningie scored 3 quick points, as play became scrambly. Jervois, were the first to break it open when Zac Makins found Josh Coulter and he received a free kick, to goal. Meningie replied through Cyril Trevorrow. Jervois attacked and attacked, Matt Schmidt and Josh Noye were prominent. Meningie worked the ball forward through Jake Liston, but Owen Love rebounded and found Josh Noye for a point. It was Meningie’s turn for their defence to hold firm, which they did, until Zac Makins found the ball after scrambly play and ran into an open goal. Myles Warmington was attacking for Meningie and Josh Benbow scored a goal, when he received a 50 metre penalty. At half time Jervois were still in front 7-3 to Meningie 6-7.
Meningie began the third quarter well, as Clint Walker goaled. Jervois again went forward with Owen Love sending down a long kick to find Josh Coulter for another goal. Meningie attacked through Warmington and Trevorrow for points, until Scott Biddle kicked a great goal from a snap. Again Jervois replied, as Owen Love combined with Josh Coulter again, who found Josh Noye for a great mark in front of goal. Play became bottled up for both sides, with players jumping on the ball. In Meningie’s forward line Brad Eagle and Jack Kluske were having a great battle. Finally, Josh Coulter, who had moved up the ground, kicked a long bomb to Jervois’ goal square, where Tim Hartman read the ball well and snapped a great goal. Meningie moved the ball forward, and Jake Liston read the ball off the pack to score another goal. The Jervois defence were under enormous pressure, but Clint Richardson, Mitchell Noye and Brad Gabell were up to the task, until Todd McKay marked and scored a goal right on the goal line. This was the first time Meningie hit the front for the game. Jervois were not going down without a fight and Matt Schmidt got the ball out of centre to Brett White, who kicked to Brock Wells for a goal. Makins and Liston were having a great battle. Three quarter time saw Jervois still in front 11-6 to Meningie 10-10.
A big crowd had gathered around the Jervois huddle, and the Jervois crowd was beginning to be vocal. Jervois attacked from the get go, Jake Liston repelled their attack, but Clint Richardson made a great contest, and kept the ball in Jervois’ forward line. Richardson again came into play, and Jervois couldn’t score, even though they were attacking hard. Meningie put their foot on the pedal and Warmington, Fenton combined until Cyril Trevorrow goaled. Again Meningie went forward through Troy Miller, and he found Josh Benbow for another goal. Brad Eagle scored his second goal after Liston found Fenton, who passed to him on the goal line. Jervois went forward, but Rhys Smart repelled them several times. They kept trying through Schmidt and Makins, until Josh Noye found Josh Coulter, who although on an acute angle, kicked a much needed goal. Again Jervois attacked for a point and Meningie were up by 9 points. Jervois were not laying down and kept attacking and Josh Noye was put in front of goal from a silly Meningie indescretion, and goaled to make it 3 points the difference. Play became torrid, as Jervois were attacking, but Meningie repelled and Scott Biddle kicked a goal to seal the game.
Final scores Meningie 14-14 to Jervois 13-7. It was a great game, and Jervois put up a great display.
JERVOIS VS RAMBLERS MAY 23RD
it was a perfect winter’s day for football, just a tad cold, no wind and sunshine, and it looked like we might get a close game. It was not to be and Ramblers, who were kicking uphill, opened the first quarter with a ‘bang’. The ball see-sawed between the two backlines for the first 5 minutes and the Aaron Pratt kicked a great rovers goal, and Nelson Miller used his pace to run into goal and kick a point. Jervois finally got the ball out of centre, went to Owen Love who found Josh Coulter alone in the goal square, who goaled. From then on, it was the Rambler show for the rest of the quarter – Sam Pfeiffer, Liam O’Neil, Alfie Gollan and Brad Hartman who goaled again and again and again. AT quarter time Ramblers were 8-4 to Jervois 1 goal.
Jervois were stung into action this quarter, and they goaled straight away when they got the ball out of centre to Coulter, who goaled. Rick Fischer kicked a long goal and they were getting back into the game. Sam Pfeiffer took a great mark and goaled to steady Ramblers. For Jervois, Casey Robins was playing his best game for the year, and was getting it out of centre, sending Jervois forward. The Rambler defence were standing firm and sent the ball out to Liam O’Neil who found Sam Pfeiffer again in the goal square for another goal. Jervois chipped the ball around until they found Owen Love who goaled. Both teams were playing attacking football and Ramblers went forward again with Jarrad Weyland and Liam O’Neill again kicking goals. Rick Fischer was playing well, along with Scott Crouch and they were finding Jervois players and Fischer goaled, followed by Coulter. At half time Ramblers 12-7 to Jervois 6-2.
The second half opened with Ramblers’ Nelson Miller taking a sensational mark in the forward line, but his poor disposal did not justify the mark. Ramblers were moving forward but the Jervois defence were holding firm, and Casey Robins was in everything. Unfortunately the Jervois defence chipped the ball around too often, turned it over and Ramblers Stuart Green swooped on it scoring a goal. Ramblers were just pushing forward at every opportunity and goals were scored to O’Neil, Hartmann, and Pratt. Jervois needed to rally and Josh Noye found the goals twice and Alex Cathro once. Casey Robins and Scott Crouch were doing well for Jervois and when Crouch got Matt Thompson for holding the ball in front of goals, the Jervois crowd were getting vocal. To end the quarter, Brad Hartmann goaled again. Three quarter time Ramblers 18-8 to Jervois 9-4.
The last quarter Ramblers really went forward and Brad Hartmann added to his tally. Liam O’Neil was in everything and of course Sam Pfeiffer showed his class with a great running goal, as did Alfie Gollan. Jervois did not give up and kept the pressure on Ramblers, with Coulter goaling and Ryan McKaye doing some great work to get the ball to Gommers who goaled. James Cobbledick had played another great game working hard and making his opponent earn his kicks. Ramblers, however kept adding to their tally with many goals, with Sam Pfeiffer and Nelson Miller prominent. Final scores Ramblers 25-11 to Jervois 12-6.
JERVOIS VS MANNUM 9TH MAY
Mannum won the toss, and kicked to the river end with a 5 goal wind behind them. It was not the best football, with Mannum peppering the goals, and Jervois trying to bottle it up. Mannum were getting the ball out of centre, with Jake Bown winning the ruck taps, and Chris Hall getting in and under. They went forward many times, but the Jervois defence was holding firm and Mannum kept on scoring points, or it was going out on the full. Damien Williamson, Corey Knight for Mannum were working hard, and Korey Loechel was having a fierce battle with Jackson Kluske. Jervois, this quarter seemed to want the ball more and were in and under more than Mannum, and several times they ran it out of defence to move forward, but were always stopped by Mannum’s Michael O’Malley. Finally with 22 minutes gone on the clock, Mannum scored a goal, then from a Jervois kick out which went on the full, Mannum scored another goal, then Jervois were handed a 50 metre penalty against the wind, but they could only score a point. Quarter time scores Mannum 2-7 to Jervois 0-1.
It was Mannum’s turn to work hard up hill, and work hard they did! Korey Loechel came outside the 50 metre arc and Damien Williamson snuck in, and he created havoc, kicking 2 quick goals. Chris Hall was getting the ball out of centre and Corey Knight along with Kellock were moving the ball forward. Jervois were attacking, but the ever reliable Michael O’Malley was roaming the back line and he just sent the ball back out to his team mates. Jervois kept plugging away, scored a point from a Mannum player kicking a goal at their end, they had a chance running into an open goal, but couldn’t pick the ball up, when Rhys Bullard came in to spoil their chance, and finally with 24 minutes gone in the second quarter they scored. Mannum, by this time had scored 4 goals against the wind and at half time scores were Mannum 6-7 to Jervois 1-3.
The third quarter, Mannum were determined not to have a repeat of the first, and wanted goals. Izaac Boylan scored from a free kick, Damien Williamson snapped one, Kellock took a great mark and goaled, Corey Knight did a miraculous snap, and Rhys Bullard had a purple patch for a goal. Jervois, not to be deterred went forward, running with the ball, but ‘that man’ Michael O’Malley was again repelling their attacks. Even though the Jervois’ defence were under immense pressure all day, and conceded goals, they never gave in. James Cobbledick went onto Kellock in the second half and cut him from the game, Scott Crouch and Lewis Aunger really put their bodies on the line. At three quarter time, the damage was done and Mannum had a great lead 14-12 to 1-3.
Jervois now had the wind, and it was time to even the score up. Zac Makins scored a quick goal, Ryan McKaye and Owen Love were moving the ball forward, but points were scored. Mannum’s Michael O’Malley was still standing firm and Mannum managed another goal against the wind. Final scores were Mannum 15-13 to Jervois 3-8.
JERVOIS VS TAILEM BEND APRIL 18TH ROUND 2
As usual, this clash between Jervois and Tailem Bend went down to the wire. It was a special day for Jervois, as they celebrated the 1995 Under 17 Premiership and the 2005 League Premiership (ironically both defeating Tailem Bend). Jervois 2005 Premiership captain Clinton Heading tossed the coin, with Tailem Bend winning the toss, and they kicked to the river end.
Tailem Bend came out of the blocks determined to get a good start. They played some hard aggressive football and Jervois were struggling. Jarryd Linde for Tailem Bend was in everything, Dylan Hogarth was in and under, new player Jayke Hellmans set up some goals, and Daniel Polec was giving Tailem a great focal point at full forward. He presented himself well and had 6 goals in the first half. Jervois on the other hand were not winning much of the ball and at quarter time Tailem Bend led 7-2 to Jervois 1-1. The second quarter saw Jervois start to get into the game more, but inaccurate kicking saw them kick 1 goal 5 points and Tailem managed 1 goal. It was not the best game to watch and Tailem Bend were determined to hang onto their lead. Half time Tailem Bend 8-2 to Jervois 2-6.
The second half saw the rain and wind come, and conditions deteriorated badly. Jervois just plugged away and Matthew Schmidt was sensational, he got down and dirty, he disposed of the ball accurately and he got Jervois moving forward. Peter Zarantonello and Brock Wells started to get the ball, and slowly but surely they managed to score 3-4 to holding Tailem Bend scoreless for the quarter. The final quarter saw Jervois keep on coming, and more players came into the game – Clint Richardson suited the conditions, Zack Makins and Mitchell Noye were pushing forward. Tailem were trying to defend desperately and Jarryd Linde kept on trying to go forward, Braden Gregory was solid. Jervois were not to be denied and the huge crowd were roaring. With only minutes to go, Jervois hit the front by a point, and the play became desperate. Tailem made one last play, but Jervois captain Jackson Kluske put his body on the line with a great smother. Jervois went forward, Rick Fischer got an accurate kick away to a team mate and the siren went. Jervois kicked another goal to give them a 7 point win.
Final scores were Jervois 8-10 (58) to Tailem Bend 8-3 (51).
