BLUES STEAL RESERVES FLAG
Trailing by 19 points at the last change, Murrabit belately threw talented Gary Hayes to full forward, and the brilliant and experienced sharp shooter literally won the flag off his own boot. The win was a fitting reward for Hayes who missed senior selection after receiving a nagging injury a month ago.
The Tigers would be bitterly disappointed, as they were clearly the better side until five minutes to go. However full credit is due to Murrabit who were clearly the form side of the season.
Young Tigers' on-baller David Somerville played a great game for Macorna and was rewarded with a Best on Ground medal. Apart from Hayes, Murrabit got good service from Mick Crowe, another proven performer. Brent Coulter and Rick Maher also did well and Daniel Irwin was their best player in the first half. Hayden Burdett also popped up when needed.
Apart from Somerville, the gutsy Macorna side had good players in Peter Shepard, Paul Lacey, Phil Farrar, Mark Carter and Andrew Haines.
With only seconds to go in the final term, it appeared that the game would clearly be a draw, but Larsen marked as the siren sounded to give Murrabit the flag by a single behind.
MURRABIT: 6.6
MACORNA: 6.5
