This week we caught up with Roy Coburn, aka "Cody" for some footy chat.....
We see you in the bar every home game. How long have you been a volunteer at BFC and what roles have you played?
I've been a volunteer since the early '80's. I have had many roles that include Committee member, Treasurer, timekeeper, goal keeper, umpire and head Barman. I have also participated in many woodcuts.
What are your favourite moments / memories with the Roos?
My fondest memories are the Reserves Grand Finals, the 1989 Senior premiership, winning the Reserves League B& F, winning 2 Club B&F and getting my Life Membership to the Roos.
Our past interviews all had a week away with a guest of their choice. Des Renfrey was taking Doreen Greenham camping, Helen Spinks hoped Mick would turn up on her deserted island, and Crowbar was sharing his week in the snow with Gloria. Which of these "couples" would you take on your week's getaway and why? Where would you go?
Crowbar and Gloria would be my choice. I'd take them to the famous hut where Gloria can cook bush tucker and Crowbar can talk about the good old days (annual generals).
Do you believe you have a famous lookalike, or ever get mistaken for someone else?
Agro, and also Tom Selleck (in my younger days!)
What line from a song best describes you?
Phoebe says "Simply Irresistible" (from Red Faces). Otherwise it would be "I Did It My Way"(or highway)!
What are your thoughts on the future of Balranald Football Club? Is there anything you are looking forward to? To be able to stay in the CMFL and utilise more than 75% of local talent. This will be affected by the attitude and efforts of players, Committee and townspeople. I'm looking forward to the reunion of the 89/90 Grand Finalists - Reserves and Seniors - and seeing the Committee and the people involved in this success.
