This week, we caught up with Helen Spinks for some footy chat .....
- school teacher, farmer, wife of Mick, mother of Tom, Luke and Ben....
Tell us something we don't know about you.
I have a twin brother, Kevin.
How long have you supported the Roos?
Since 1985 when I first came to Balranald
What's the funniest thing you have ever seen watching a game of footy here at Balranald?
A little puppy dog ran onto the field, dug a hole in the goal square at the bar end, buried his bone, left a mound of dirt, and then ran off!
What's your opinion of "the shed"?
If we could pick it up and relocate it, it would be better. On a positive side, it has provided a focus and identity for the footy club, a "home for the Roos" and has proven a great venue for many wonderful functions.
Do you think football injuries have changed over the years and why?
Definitely, less impact injuries due to more umpiring control and less physical allowances. (As a mother of 3 sons, this allows me to watch a game more easily). There are more lower limb injuries associated with the faster speed of the game .
If the Roos had to change their theme song, what song do you think would be a good replacement?
You couldn't change the Roos song! But if you had to, I think "The Boys Light Up" or change Cyndi Lauper's famous hit to "Boys Just Wanna Have Fun"!
The "Roo Bar”"is to be auctioned tonight. Will you put in a bid to have your name on the number plate for season 2008? How much do you think the highest bidder will pay?
My husband finds it hard not to raise his hand at an auction, so he probably will put in a bid or two. I reckon it will go to a couple of thousand (depends if Jock is bidding or not).
You are marooned on a Pacific Island. Who do you hope walks up the beach toward you and why?
My husband, of course! ('Til death do us part and all that stuff).
What about if you were only 30 years old again?
My husband, of course! We had a magnetic attraction back then too!
