The foundations of our great club were first hatched at an informal meeting in late 1972 when Finley Samson, the late Bob Mcrae, Ken Ashton, Tony Cochrane and Murray Overs discussed the issues being faced within the Melton Football Club (the sole club of the town at the time) and the issues to be addressed of starting a second club within Melton.
The Melton South Football Club was then formed at a resultant public meeting chaired by then Melton President Alec Kerr on November 14 1972.
At a meeting on November 28 1972, a committee was elected with local identity Charlie Winch elected as the first President with Vice Presidents Tony Cochrane and Keith Harrison.
At the first official meeting on November 30, a motion to join the Riddell District Football League was defeated 7 votes to 6. Withthe Bacchus Marsh Football League keen to lure the club, it was then decided to put a vote to a public meeting to be held on December 12 as to where the club should play. It was at this meeting that the RDFL was chosen as the preferred league for our club to play in.
It was also at this meeting that the decision to wear the Navy Blue Jumper with White Yoke that we love so dear was made.
