Founded in 2009, the Preston Bullants Amateur Football Club (formerly known as Northern Bullants Amateur FC (2009-10) and Northern Blues Amateur FC (2011-15) are an Australian Rules Football Club competing in the Victorian Amateur Football Association.
Based at W.R Ruthven Reserve in Preston the club represents the fast growing northern corridor of Melbourne, offering people living in the area a chance to play for and support an amateur football team.
In the years prior to their senior inception in 2013, the Bullants fielded one U18 Division 1 team in the VAFA in 2009-10 and an under 19's team in Division 3 in 2011 before fielding a team in the under 19's Division 3 and Premier B Thirds competition in 2012.
The Preston Bullants Amateurs have strong ties to the Preston Bullants Junior FC (YJFL) and the Northern Blues FC (VFL). The majority of their current players in fact played their junior football at the mighty Preston Bullants Junior Football Club. Several players have also been given the opportunity to try out with the VFL squad through our affiliation with the Northern Blues each pre-season, with a number playing football for the VFL development side.
In its short history, the Preston Bullants Amateurs have developed a strong culture aimed at providing the opportunity for young footballers to play with their friends in a safe, competitive and social environment.
In their inaugural senior year in 2013, the Bullants defeated Eley Park to capture the VAFA Division 4 premiership from sixth position on the ladder earning promotion to Division 3 for season 2014. In 2014, they won back to back premierships defeating Richmond Centrals, further promoting the club into Division 2 for the 2015 season.
In 2015, the senior team made the finals in Division 2, and the U19's competed in the preliminary final. In 2016 all three of the club's teams progressed to prelininary finals, a great achievement and reflective of the quality of depth the club now enjoys. To add icing to the cake, the seniors progressed through to the grand final against St Johns, winning its 3rd premiership in the space of only 4 years, and achievig promotion to Division 1 in 2017.
In 2016, the club moved into its brand new purpose built facilities at W.R. Ruthven Reserve, shared with close partners the Northern Socials Cricket Club.
In 2018, the club welcomed its first Senior Women's football team, opening the doors to women and girls in the local community. This historical team will be coached by Vince Fontana, and managed by Denise Zumpe.
