Commiserations to Mark Wallace and the Thirds who bowed out of the finals with a loss to Wodonga last Sunday, a disappointing way to finish but having said that the boy’s played some great footy throughout the year and hopefully we will see many come through into the senior ranks for 2009.
Best players on the day were Will Moffitt, Tom Squires, Josh Jeffries, Corey Kimber, Ryan Wallace and Will Ward, while the only multiple goal kicker was Jack Stean with 2 goals.
The club would like to thank all the support staff who helped out with the thirds during the year including, Noel Willis, Dean Ried, Greg White, David Chapman, Col Schifferley, Chris Squires, Graeme Barned, our Club umpires Adrian Casey and David Henricus as well as the boundary and water boy’s and the many parents who lent their support throughout the season.
While it was the end of the road for the thirds, the C Grade netballers fought out a thrilling 2 goal victory against Wangaratta on Sunday, this was the girls first win over the Magpies this season and it couldn’t have come at a better time.
After being locked together on 19 goals apiece at half time and then holding a slim 1 goal lead at the last change the scene was set for a great last quarter with both teams giving their all.
The Magpies were gallant in defeat and looked to be in control for most of the final quarter before the Tiges fought back strongly in the last five minute and with some great defensive work from Justine Willis and Anna Coelli managed to hold out the Magpies and continue their 2008 finals campaign.
Best players were Justine Willis and Sarah Everson, with Sarah scoring 22 goals, Tegan Vogel 8 and Sally Williams 5.
The Reserves went straight through to the Grand Final with a solid 50 point win against Lavington on Saturday and will have the weeks rest before meeting this weeks Preliminary Final winner between Lavington and Wodonga.
Best players were Andrew Robinson, Scott Campbell, Sam Duck, Andrew Ednie, John Mitchell and Tim Mitchelhill, with Tim kicking 5 goals, Shaun Mulraney and Andrew Robinson 3 apiece.
Tickets are selling fast for this years Best & Fairest night, being held at the club on Saturday 11th October, tickets are $35 including a two course meal and booking can be made by phoning the Club on 60211180.
