A capacity crowd packed the gallery at Nillumbik Council chambers last night and cheered home a 6-1 vote in favour of a $2.6M upgrade to the Research Park facilities last night.
This was a victory of following a vision with perseverance, dedication, planning and execution, combined with extreme doggedness.
What was perceived over ten years ago to be a pie in the sky presentation by the visionary Gary White and his RJFC committee to the state government and local council, became a reality last night in what could only be described as a very emotional win for the Research community.
Following the original presentation, the current committees of RJFC and the RECCC have, over the last five years in particular, consistently lobbied local government and council in a way that was so thorough that the council now has a blueprint to present to other community groups on how to go about realising great outcomes for their clubs.
When completed, Research Park will be able to enjoy a new double storey facility which will accommodate junior football and cricket teams for boys and girls of all abilities, and social rooms that can comfortably seat over 100 people for functions. The facility will also be available for local community groups such as the CFA, Scouts , Schools and social groups from not only Research, but from surrounding rural centres to the North East which are craving such a community space.
Congratulations to all concerned on a spectacular result.
NB A special mention to local member Vicki Ward who used all of her political strength to help boot home the result.
