Hi all,
Bad luck to the seniors on Friday – it was a fantastic 3 quarters. I’m sure when the injured players are back the team will be even stronger and be able to finish strongly as well. We had about 10 girls who came from their game to watch and all had a great night and are feeling more and more connected to the club. We also appreciated being part of the dinner on Thursday and enjoyed the fitness and skills session in the cricket nets.
On a positive note, our senior netball team won their first game for the year (we didn’t win at all last year, so we are all very excited). We played a very aggressive Greensborough. Almost every player on the court, as well as our bench and their coach, got warnings from one of the umpires. It was a very physical game. We steamed ahead in the first half. Our shooting was fantastic and all down the court there was a great improvement even from our game the week before. They came back in the 3rd quarter and in the last quarter our lead had reduced to one and we were very close to being run over and having the win taken away from us. Unlike the opposition, we stayed calm and didn’t get sucked into the strange umpiring decisions or the rough play. It was a very mature approach and we managed to win by 7 goals in the end. Our 3rd quarter is something we will work on – our concentration goes down and we start making bad decisions. It was fantastic that we could make up for this once the last quarter got underway. Unfortunately, the 2nd and 3rd teams didn’t win – they still need a few weeks to gel properly and find their feet. But they were very competitive and are all thoroughly enjoying playing for Northcote. Final scores are below.
Div 1: Northcote Park 41, Greensborough 34
Div 4: Watsonia 28, Northcote Park 23
Div 10: West Ivanhoe 33, Northcote Park 26
We have a week off over Easter and haven’t been given game details for Round 3 yet.
Thanks
Jean
