Another impressive performance from the Coolangatta-Tweed Blues backline set up the teams maiden Pineapple Hotel Cup win of the season over Springwood at Springwood on Saturday afternoon.
The Blues won the round five clash 14-8(92) to 12-17(89) coming from behind in the final 10 minutes to secure the victory over Springwood who had also gone into the clash with out a win.
Coach Scott Lawto was a happy man after his side managed to fulfill the promise they showed the week before in their two point loss to competition leaders Aspley.
"It is good to be on the board" he said
"OUr first half was really good - very pleasing"
At half time the Blues were up 8-4 to 3-8 and looking comfotable, but Springwood re-organised during the long break and came out battling in the third quarter - kicking five for the quarter to Gatta's three.
The Blues lead by just 10 points going into the final stanza and Springwood kept the ascendancy surging forward to lead.
"Its always good to come from behind"
Lawton said of his team's final 20 minutes.
"They were 10 points up with 15 to go but we fought back,"
Last week it was the final 10 minutes that cost the Blues the points over Aspley but they had obviously learned from there experience.
Lawton singled out back line players Wade Maxwell, Matt Boyd and Papue New Guinean John James while Alex Pinda kicked three and Emmaus Wartove shrugged off a thigh strain to kick three of his own
