Seniors did what they had to do, although many supporters hoped they would see a demolition of the second bottom side East Ringwood. Actually East Ringwood looked far from a team in a position that is threatened by relegation and were very competitive in the first half. Yes, we were certainly not at full strength with players like Adam Parker, Sam Anson, Connor McCafferty , Corey Cassidy and a couple of others who were having a refresher in the Reserves. However we did have the pleasure of Alex Greenwood ( Vermont boys at western Bulldogs) and he was terrific all day, particularly his handball to advantage and powerful running.
We certainly had a trump card up forward with Mitch Davis who took nine marks and had 10 shots on goal kicking 6.3. Mitch reached his half century Saturday and sits second on the comp goalkicking list.
We had a couple of others who continued their excellent form in Xavier Barry-Murphy on wing or half back who has been racking up the possessions and using his great running endurance to cover plenty of territory . Shane Davidson has been playing this season in defence and using his exceptional speed to break open play and carry the ball into attack. One long run down middle of ground and goal in third quarter was a real highlight.
Kirby McConnon continued his come back after injury with another good game in defence and later in the mid field where he really does add some class, whether it is perfectly placed kick to a forward or a sensational snap goal over his shoulder in final term.
All in all, we were far from perfect, particularly in the first half, but we are still sitting in Third position on the ladder and a six goal win should be enjoyed. We would have certainly been excited with this score in round 1.
Next week we have Lilydale at home. The other games that very much effect us are Noble Park vs Norwood and Balwyn vs Rowville.
