Bar-ooooo-ga .......it does sound like a truck horn. What a great effort from the boys last week! We had a couple of big outs with Wacko (shoulder), JC (slow toe) and The Echo (little voices inside his head). The big Kuza debuted and Pud was invited back. Bowlsie set the scene early with a great run off half back through the centre. His pass into the forward 50 found Trenna, who landed one in Big Jack’s mitts to score our first. ReeShe had been given a big assignment, but was also collecting possessions. He found Moo, who hit up Barto on the wing. Barto unleashed one of his bullets on AA who goaled from 30. Our midfield was defending and our backline was attacking. Work that out. Fergie found Joey in the middle, who in turn, found Hicksie on the wing. Big Jack – CLUNK. And on to Moo for our third. In a very spirited opening stanza, we led until the 30 minute mark. And the ‘Truck-horns’ didn’t like it. Talk about abusive. They abused the umpires, the players, the waterboys. I’m pretty sure they also abuse themselves. Qtr time scores 3.1 to 3.4. The arm wrestle continued in the second with each team scoring a solitary goal. Our’s came from another great team effort which again began with Bowlsie deep in defence. He found Joey at CHB who was really beginning to hit his straps. His pass to Tater was spot on. Bowlsie had continued to run and received from Tater, before spotting up the leading Barto. Back he went, and twang, straight as an arrow! Pud had an impact off the bench. Hicksie was running hard and providing opportunities. He looked just like Keith Greig on the Gasometer wing at Arden St when he sat on the ruckman’s head for the mark of the day right in front of the ‘Truck-horns’. ReeShe had his own fan club – and they all knew his name. The tirade of abuse continued, but the umpires said they had never felt safer. Well done to that mysterious man in the lime green vest. Half time scores 4.2 to 4.6. We lost Shanno during the break. The Hawks came out with intent and slammed on a quick five. The backline was under plenty of pressure. KeeShe and Joey were doing a great job. Congo had a tall task and was super-competitive, as usual. Our boys worked back into it with Fergie gaining possession across half back. DC marked and found Bowlsie on the wing. Joey had run into a hole at CHF to mark 45 out. Goal. You could sense the youngsters were tiring, but no one gave up. Three quarter time scores 5.2 to 10.11. ReeShe had stuck to his task and was in everything. At one stage he was found inside his opponent’s jumper. Talk about a nuisance. The Magician limped off with cramp (can you get Deep Vein Thrombosis from time travel?). Late in the quarter Big Jack clunked another on the defensive side of wing. Barto led and marked, and with the precision of a surgeon passed to Kuza on the 50. Back went the big fella and slotted his first for The Road. Final scores 6.4 to 12.14
