On a day that was all about Magpies / Nimbin legend Frank Reid’s 500th game the Tiger’s did enough in the wet conditions to take the points.
It was always going to be a challenge in the rain and slick muddy conditions at Bangalow, throw in Frank’s big occasion and the fact that Byron were coming off a win over Ballina last week and the Tigers had to dig deep to get over a Byron side that are showing signs of improvement at the business end of the season.
The return of Tigers full forward Ash Gemmill provided a very solid target up front and he scored 6 goals to add to his tally of 41 already for the season. Ash is odds on the take out the Tigers leading goal kicking and should be hard to beat for the league title. Bones, Spence and Popey also got amongst the goals with a couple each.
The Tigers were missing their ruckman Strope and Jacob dropped into the role to provide plenty of ball to the onballers where Johnno had one of his best games so far this year winning plenty of tough gets.
The Magpies toiled hard in the conditions and provided plenty for the Tigers backman to defend with Timmy solid as always. Peaches slotted into the halfback line and combined well with Josh and Sam Edwards to provide plenty of rebound. Sammy’s effort earning him the coverted players player mug.
Another solid win for the Tigers with only 2 Rounds left before finals, they will now host Ballina this Saturday in the last home game for the regular season at Tigerland, Pottsville.
Thanks to the Tigers support staff and fans that came and supported the Team in the rain, well done!
Tigers would like to congratulate Frank Reid on his 500th game and wish him all the best for the future.
