The Tweed Coast Tigers have extended their winning run to 14
games straight, but only after sneaking home in their second come from behind
win in two weeks, against Coolangatta on Sunday.
After a nailbitter last week against Ballina the Tigers were
looking to regain their dominant form against the improving Coolangatta, but
once again a lack lustre start nearly proved their undoing when the undergunned
Cooly team turned up to play.
Cooly with their PNG connections were first to the ball and
used their speed well to produce plenty of fast breaks and scoring opportunities.
However unlike last week the Tigers never really let Cooly
get more than a kick in front and hung on all day to finally finish over the
top of a tiring Blues outfit.
The Tigers had 30 scoring shots to 17 and the inaccuracy
nearly handy Cooly the win on Tigers turf, with the Blues actually kicking more
goals, but the tenacious Tigers stuck it out and snuck home by 8 points.
Strope again dominated the ruck and was well supported in
the middle by Jimmy who was awarded the players player for the second week
running for a tough onball display.
The return of Roundy provided a big forward target, with Nugget
and Bones all amongst the goals.
A special mention for Col who put his hand up to play for Cooly
and nearly did enough to get them over the line kicking a goal and having a
hand in a couple of others.
Also a big thanks to the Tigers home crowd who followed the
team form Pottsville to Round Mountain and provided plenty of vocal support in
the last quarter to inspire the home side.
Not the dominate performance
the Tigers were looking for but as they say a bad win is better than a good
loss. A solid effort from Cooly who will no doubt feature in the upcoming
finals.
The question is now are the Tigers slowing down at the
pointy end of the season or are the other teams catching up?
This weekend sees the Tigers final away game for the season
as they head to Lismore to take on Swans, who will be desperate to get the
points to ensure a place in the finals.
Big thanks to the Tigers volunteers, coaching support staff
and the home crowd.
Final Score
Tigers 11.19-85 d Coolangatta 12.5-77
