Tigers 34. 27 - 231 d Nimbin 3.4 - 22
The Tweed Coast Tigers undertook the best road trip in Australian football on Saturday , heading to Nimbin to take on the Demons.
The game was played in great spirits and hats off to the Tigers new recruits and a couple of old heads who put their hands up to play for an under strength Nimbin.
Pauly P, Don, Thomo, Nathan, VB and Tommy Taite who had an outstanding game and was rewarded, being voted players player by the Tigers Team (even though he played for Nimbin).
Whilst Nimbin continue to struggle, what they lack for in player numbers they make up for in heart. The Tigers travelled to Nimbin slightly under strength missing star forward Roundy and several of the front line onballers. However the Tigers squad is strong this season and Coach Shags took the opportunity to test players and combinations out around the ground.
From the first bounce big Tits Wilson dominated the ruck and continued to do so for the full 100 minutes displaying some good athleticism and fitness for such a big unit. The Tigers ran riot all day across the park kicking 34 goals. However once again accuracy in front of the big sticks proved an issue with 27 behinds and this will need to improve in future rounds against stiffer competition.
It was a great opportunity for the Tigers to work on their combinations with onballers Arnold (2 goals), Johnno, Jai, Ash and Westy running well to deliver so many scoring opportunities to the forwards. With no Roundy as a target up the front a restructured forward line saw Jacob dominate the scoring to kick 10 goals. Half forwards Bolty (8 goals), and Nugget (3 goals) both played great attacking football, with both forward pockets Popey and Benny contributing with 5 goals each.
If it wasn’t for the contribution of the Tigers players playing for Nimbin and inaccurate kicking the score could off been catastrophic for the Demons.
The road trip to Nimbin is always colourful and this Saturday was no exception with a Bikie and Tattoo Show being held next to the ground to spice things up with colourful characters and plenty of good vibes.
Big thanks to the team support staff Lucy (Team Physio), Mark (Team Manger), Runner - Timmy and the great group of Tigers supporters who made the journey.
