Female Club History

Casey Comets Senior Womens and Girls

Casey Comets FC has a proud history in supporting the female game.

Casey Comets Football Club, formerly known as Cranbourne Comets has competed in the top tier of Womens football for over 25 years.

Casey Comets are one of the original clubs to compete in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) which was formed when Women’s Football Victoria and Football Federation Victoria joined forces to create the WPL in 1999.

Casey Comets started the competition in 1999 as Victorian League champions. The Club were subsequent winners and overall champions in the inaugural year. The Club were also WPL overall champions and Grand Final winners in 2002 and reached the Grand Final in 2004 and 2005.

Casey Comets were also WPL league winners in 1998, 1999, 2002, 2004 and 2005 and runners up in 2001. Casey Comets WPL has performed consistently well over the years is one of the most established and top performing Women’s Clubs in Victoria.

Casey Comets Women’s teams are proud to have had 3 players included at senior national level during this time with Debbie Nicholls, Theresa Deas and Jane Oakley all being capped.

The Club has been a breading ground of quality female players for many years with players representing both state and national football before continuing their footballing career overseas.

Although fielding a strong presence in junior girls teams since 2000,the club introduced a female development program in 2013, creating a pathway that could take a girl from 5 years old and lead her through the club to the top level of football in Victoria and beyond.

In particular our U18 girls were crown champions in in 2011 and 2013 and Grand Finalists in 2014 and 2015. in 2015 the U14s won the U14B South League.

The Clubs female player base is in excess of 25% and this figure grows year on year.

With the cessation of the WPL in 2015, the Club has joined a Consortium of Clubs to form Southern United Football Club and will participate in the NPLW. As a stakeholder, the Club feels that it is remaining committed to its history of providing a pathway to elite Women’s football.

Casey Comets continued with State League 1 and Reserves in 2016 and introduced a State League 4 squad in 2017.

2017 saw the Senior Womens team finish as runners up in State League 1 SE. Our Junior teams were also successful with the U16A girls finishing as runners up in the league and as grand finalists. The U12 girls also finished as league runner up.
