- Recently a photo was found of the premiership side of 1907, taken at Winton. Several players in the photo paid the ultimate price fighting for their country during WW1. The boys were aslo premiers in 1909, 1914 and R/Up 1910. There is a refference that there was a match in 1907 between Glenrowan and Benalla Stars - Glenrowan winning 1. 4. (10) to 0. 1. (1). However the Premiership side that year was Glenrowan- Winton F.C.
- In 1915 former Glenrowan resident and player Private George Tippett aged 25 died at Dardanelles. He attended the Glenrowan State School and was regarded as a splendid player for Glenrowan with a good physique - sober, industrious, clean living life a universal favourite.
- In 1917 respected Pvte E. Smith well known to the Glenorwan township died whilst serving his country.
- In 1918 former Glenorwan footballer Sgt Peter Garoni also fell in France.
- In May 1920 Glenrowan lost a match to Sheans Gully 10.10 (70) - 3.10 (28). There isn't much written about Sheans Gully F.C. which is North East of Euroa; but it shows that most towns were represented in some form when it came to Aussie Rules pre WW1.
- In 1944 Lance Corporal Paul Leslie O'Brien broke his leg above the ankle in the closing stages of the match between Glenrowan and Wangaratta on 08/09/44. He was taken to Wangaratta and died of a major haemorrhage.
- Ray Howard was the first Coach to be paid in 1951. Players were forced to sell wood and trap rabbits to pay Howard's 5 Pound/season.
- Glenorwan's winger Geoff Mason won the 130 yard Glenrowan Gift in April 1953.
- The lads from Glenrowan played cricket a good decade before the footy club started. The Glenrowan Cricket Club participated in the Wangaratta & District League from 1895/96-1915/16 winning the flag in 1909/10 and in 1910/11; finished 4th in 1911/12. There was a Sunday competition in Wangaratta up to the late 1990's where Glenrowan also participated.
- The club was established as Glenrowan in 1910 wearing red, white and blue vertical stripes. In 1934 a black jumper was worn with 2 yellow vertical stripes. The yellow and black vertical stripes were adopted in 1953. The club used various venues before clubrooms were built in 1954, 55; they included the old Gordon Hall back of the Hotel site of the present lounges and billiard room which is now the bar.
- The club was originally nicknamed the 'Rovers' becoming the 'Kelly Tigers' in 1992.
- The club's colours have always been Yellow and Black originally being vertical stripes. In the 1920's the club wore Yellow, Black and White vertical stripes. In the 1960's the club adopted the design of the Richmond Tigers (VFL/AFL) being a Black guernsey with Yellow sash. In the 1970's the players wore Yellow shorts. The current guernsey of Yellow front with Black Kelly Gang helmet centered with Black back and yellow numbers was introduced only a couple of years ago.
- Karl Norman who played with Glenrowan in 1999 & 2001 (2000 & 2002 with Wang Rovers). He was then selected at No.79 in the 2002 AFL National Draft & went onto play 27 matches with the Carlton Blues. Karl won Glenrowan's B&F in 2001 and returned to the club in 2014 guiding the club to the premiership and winning his second Kelly Tiger Best & Fairest. League B&F R/Up 2015-16-17.
- Jack "Mac" Hill (22/03/1927) 173 cms, 67 kgs. Originally from Beechworth. Later played with Wangaratta FC. Member of the 1948 - O&K - Wang Rovers FC Premiership, before playing 2 games for Collingwood in the VFL in 1950. Mac returned to play with Wangaratta Rovers before he went to Glenrowan as a playing coach between 1954 & 1959, winning the 1955 premiership.
- 2009-10 Senior Coach Steve Hickey (28/10/1965) 180 cms, 83 kgs played 37 games for North Melbourne Kangaroos in the VFL/AFL kicking 2 goals between 1985-88.
- 2013 Recruit Nathan Carroll (20/10/1980) 191 cms, 90 kgs, played 71 games for Melbourne Demons (AFL) kicking 1 goal between 2003-08.
- 2016 Round 4 versus Milawa at W.J. Findlay (City Oval) Brendan Fevola (20/01/1981) 191 cms, 100 kgs, played 187 games for Carlton (AFL) kicking 575 goals and played 17 games for Brisbane Lions kicking 48 goals. (Blues leading goalkicker 2003-09, Michael Tuck medal 2005, Coleman Medal 2006. 09, All Australian 2006, 08-09. Played for Glenrowan kicking 6 goals in the Kelly Tigers loss to the Demons.
- The Glenrowan F.C. has a bit of history rare to find among other country clubs at best was that 3 past players during the 1950's went on in later life to be recognised by the Order of Australia for service to the country in various capacities; they were- Stuart Devlin A.O. Officer Order of Australia, General Division. Linton Briggs A.M. Member Order of Australia, General Division and Bill O'Callaghan O.A.M. Medal of the Order of Australia. Bill and Linton still reside in Glenrowan.
- Linton was a former player, Captain, President, Secreatry, Treasurer and delegate during the 1940's to 1960's. Linton also grew up along side Ned Kelly's sister Grace and brother Jim whom he knew both well. He has been a Committee member with the Glenrowan Public Park Reserve for the past 60 years. Linton's father John Briggs is Glenrowan's longest serving policeman; Constable Briggs #7529 served the township from 17/07/1926 to 28/03/1955 being 28 tears and 8 months. John was highly respected by Ned Kelly's mother Ellen and her children.
- Stuart Devlin born in Geelong in 1931 now lives in England and established himself enormously as a silver and goldsmith artisan with international reputation for high quality jewellery design. His appointment as silver and goldsmith to the British Crown gives some idea of his stature. A few years after playing football with Glenrowan Stuart submitted designs for Australia's decimal currency. The Commonwealth accepted Stuart's designs and since 1966 we Australians have been walking around with some of Stuart's art work jingling in our pockets.
- DAD'S ARMY- In 1996 Mick Brenia aged 51 hung up his boots in a different kind of way. Mick buried his boots in the centre of the Glenrowan ground ending a succesful career with the Tigers. A past coach and premiership player 1980-81 Mick was a top goalkicker in the 1970's and 80's, he believed that if he buried the boots there was no way he could be talked into putting them on again. Peter Scott (16/10/1958) made a return to the Kelly Tigers reserves in Round 6 at Greta in 2008 aged 49. In Round 13 2008 at Bright Peter ran out with his sons Tom and Jack. Peter was the reserves leading goalkicker in 1995 aged 36. Damian Melnyk (27/03/1969) made his senior debut in Round 11 2007 at Bright aged 38. His previous senior VCFL match was back in 1991 with St Leonards in the Bellarine League; a return to senior level after 16 years. Brett Heisey made his debut at the age of 45 in Round 4 at Bright in 2008. At 46 Mark Keenan ran out for his debut match in Round 5 against Whorouly in 2008.
- Len Holden played 401 games for the yellow and Black with 263 senior matches, Corrie Haring notched up his 400th game in 1981.
- Brothers Paul and Tim Hamilton notched up a combined total of 300 games played in 2008.
- In 1999 Steve Mc Namara was the club's leading goalkicker in the seniors with 18 and the reserves with 34. In 2000 Shaun Hibberson was the reserves leading goalkicker with 12 majors; 'Hibbo' came to Glenrowan that year from North Wangaratta where he also headed their goalkicking award with 19.
- Mark Sayers holds the club's O&K record for most goals in a senior match being 13 versus Greta in Round 8, 2002. Mark tragically passed away aged 43 in 2014; Glenrowan and North Wangaratta where Mark also played now play for The Mark Sayers Cup since the club's last match in 2014.
- In 2008 the club had 17 members of the Victorian Police Force be involved with the club. Glenrowan policeman s/c N.Barrow was the club's Vice President (2007-09). Wangaratta police members who played footy were Constables T.Carroll, J.Down (Reserves B&F R/UP), G.Gutierrez, S.Miller, B.Heisey and D.Melnyk (Reserves Captain and Secretary 2008-09), S/C G.Blair played and was on the Committee, s/c's M.Keenan, N.Mc Hugh and D.Loiterton doned on the boots. Netballers and policewomen were c/K.Burke, E.Christie, A.Meagher and M.Simonelli (Treasurer). Broadmeadows Constables J.Cheyne and A.Luke played in Round 10 to help an under manned reserves side.
- Former Glenrowan policeman from 18/07/1975-15/10/1980 s/c Lionel John 'Jack' Beaton # 14452 was club Secretary from 1978-80.
- In the Old days the Glenrowan boys would load the back of a truck with the seats from the Glenrowan Rooms for their away trips. After match stop overs at oppositions pubs like Tatong were a common occurance and no doubt made the trip home a merry one.
- The original Glenrowan Oval was in the vicinity of the quarry; which now has the new Hume Fwy running through it. A section of the southern left pocket can still be seen today.
- In July 1981 Glenrowan kicked a record score of 46.18.294 defeating Longwood 1.1.7. Rob Fitzgerald booted 18 goals that day with Mick Brenia kicking 9. Fitzgerald took his tally to 94 and Brenia 64 as Glenrowan topped the ladder with 52 points and a percentage of 309.6 !
- Glenrowan won the League's first 'Blue Ribbon Cup' defeating Greta 14. 6. (90) to 4. 8. (32) at Glenrowan Reserve on Round 17, 2009. The Cup is in memory of the fallen policemen and policewomen who served our state.
www.remember.org.au
- Joe Bedendo is the club's longest serving President (7) years. V. Bear is the longest serving Secretary (5) and Urve Fulton the longest serving Treasurer (6) years. Bedendo also played over 250 matches for the club and is a long standing sponsor of Glenrowan.
