Round 14
Winchelsea Blues (22) Vs Thomson (33)
Coming off a great win last week, we knew today was going to be tough against Thomson.
The conditions were wet but the team were instructed to play as normal but no one was to step on with the ball, they were to control their passes.
Lyndal and Ann started in goals with Les on the bench ready to come on anytime. With Les back after being on holidays, we now have our 3 shooters for the remainder of the season. Lyndal was finding it hard to move in the ring, I think this was because she hurt her ankle during the week and was hoping it would be ok. She was also finding it hard to keep hold of the ball dropping 3. We missed only 2 goals this quarter but Lyndal rebounding both and converted to goals. With Lyndal not moving in the ring, this practically took a shooter out and left Ann to do the moving herself. Thompson’s GK was tipping and intercepting balls from basically reading what Lyndal was doing and playing in front.
Ann was doing what she could but her workload was increased causing her to throw 2 ineffective passes.
Kim A was doing her job in WA hitting the top of the ring, although she needs to talk more to Jackie and communicate who is running where as they found themselves cutting eachother off at times and not coming forward as they were waiting for the other to lead. This will allow the ball to flow down the court easier. Unfortunately Kim stepped 3 times in the first half, I have identified that Kim is not actually stepping as such, she is not lifting her feet off the ground enough and her footwork is making it look like she is stepping, Kim was advised to make it obvious how she lands and with 2 feet at the same time, then to pick one up. Kim threw 2 inefective passes and dropped the ball once in the first half.
Jackie was working well in the centre position, her job was to control the court but being mindful of her change of speed down the court. She needs to pick her timing when she leads for the ball and needs to push off faster. At times Jackie was getting confused where to run, but needs to take more control in the centre position to direct her teammates.
Jackie threw 1 bad pass, tipped one, 1 contact and dropped one ball in the first half.
Tilly started in WD, She was not playing tight enough on her player and this was allowing her opponent to easily lead for the ball and to be able to get it into the ring easy. Tilly was finding it hard to help bring the ball down the court as her leads were too late and she was waiting for the next easy pass which we cant keep doing with better and fitter teams. We need to attempt a lead every time and then attempt again. Tilly tipped 2 balls, stepped once, threw 1 bad pass, got caught holding the ball and contacted / obstructed 7 times in the first half.
Josie was struggling to match her opponent who was very speedy from the start, this frustrated Josie and needed to keep her head up and keep going. She was starting to double team the shooter instead of staying on her GA as she clearly didn’t have the fitness to match her. Josie’s stats show she was playing ok taking 3 intercepts, 1 rebound, 1 tip, 1 bad pass and 3 contacts / obstructions for the first half.
Halleshia in GK had a great first quarter intercepting 3 balls and tipping many balls until Thomson changed their GS in the secondf quarter, she was much taller and stronger. She became the main holding shooter.
The first quarter we scored 7 to Thompsons 3. Lyndal shot 6 from 7 which she rebounded her missed shot and converted. Ann shot 2 from 3 attempts – Lyndal rebounded Ann’s missed goal and also converted.
We had a terrible second quarter scoring only 2 goals to Thomsons 10.
Going into the third quarter knowing we got smashed in the second, we were not going to let this happen again. We were getting penalized alot only down 1 end of the court but we had to hold our heads high and keep playing our game.
A few changes were made in the third, Ann came off for a rest and Les took her GA bib. Kim A came off for a rest and Claire took her WA bib. The rest of the team stayed the same. This change was to inject some speed into the WA position for an easy pass into the ring. It worked as Jackie knew she had to match Claire as she pushed to be available for the ball and hitting the ring, she did a great job.
Josie was getting very frustrated and someone should have called time to have a talk together and reset. Her opponent was fast but defensively she was in Josies personal space which got in her head, she needed to also adjust to the umpires calls. Josie got caught contacting 7 times along with Halleshia who also got caught with 5.
Tilly was quiet in the last half, she needed to play tighter on her player and move her feet.
At 3 quarter time, Josie was so frustrated by being beaten she ripped her bib off and refused to go back on, I had no one else to take the position so she had to go on, as per my coaching expectations, no player is to take their bib off, I as the coach will make that decision. Halleshia moved into GD and Josie played in GK.
Ann went back on in GA and Kim A back into WA.
Our defence pressure lacked and we were not coming forward for the ball as well as earlier in the game, were we getting tired? We shouldn’t have as we had 2 players who had just had a rest.
We had a better last quarter with Lyndal shooting 5 from 5 and Ann shooting 3 from 3. 100% and winning the last quarter 8 – 6 which was great but not enough to get the win today. Last time we met we lost by 15. Today by 11.
Goal accuracy
Lyndal – 17 / 18 = 94% - Goal achieved Ann –5 / 6 = 83% - Goal achieved Les – 0 / 1 = 0%
We scored 22 goals from 25 attempts which is a percentage of 88%. We could have had 9 more attempts but we dropped 5 balls and contacted in the ring 4 times. If we had of held onto the ball and not contacted, we could have only lost by 2 goals, even better won the game if we were able to minimize our contacts in defence.
Best players:
3 – Jackie Steere 2 – Ann Morgan 1 – Halleshia Kirby
Round 12
Winchelsea Blues (49) Vs Anakie (14)
What a big win today!!! We did not only get the 4 points, but we have given our percentage a boost. If we keep winning, we still may have a chance to make finals!
Todays game started with a strong starting seven with 2 impact players on the bench ready to come on at anytime. Ther team were instructed to push their passes, make strong leads for the ball and to snatch the ball in.
Lyndal and Ann had a fantastic training session on Thursday working on some set plays and scenarios. This was clearly seen on court in the game as they combined so well together, they were reading off each other well which was creating easy feeds into the ring. Once Ann received the ball and was in a position under the ring, she took shots where she would normally pass off to Lyndal.
Jackie was strong in centre controlling the court, but was not making a second attempt after passing the ball around the ring. Claire R started in WA and was fantastic, her leads were fast and well timed. This opened up the goal third and created many options as her player could not keep up with her fast drives.
Our strong defensive line up with Josie (WD), Halleshia (GD) and Kim T (GK) was unstoppable. We played a one on one defence game and applied pressure for the ball to be turned over on the baseline many times. We took 6 intercepts, Kim, Halleshia, Jackie and Ann took 1, Josie took 2. We threw 3 bad passes, one each from Kim T, Jackie and Claire. We were leading 14 to 3. Lyndal shot 8 /11 (72%) and Ann shot 3/ 4 (75%).
The second quarter Claire and Halleshia came off for a rest as they were also playing in C grade today. Tilly came on the court in WD, Kim A took the WA bib and Josie moved to GD. Our aim was to shoot as many goals as the first quarter or more.
Tilly took a few minutes to get into the game, her footwork was a little slower but once reminded she needed to make her steps smaller and faster she was able to keep on her player and have a go at cutting the ball off.
Kim A was moving ok in WA but needs to ensure her drives are stronger and is making pre-lim moves in able to lose her player. Once she worked this out, she was able to hit the top of the ring with more ease. She turned over the ball once but made up for this with a tip and an intercept.
Kim T was strong in GK, she was tight on her player and pressured her on the goal line to cause her to either go out of court or the ball to be overthrown. Her blocking under the goal ring was great, she just needs to remember that she can try to pick off balls in the goal circle when the defenders are loose.
Lyndal and Ann were still strong in the goal circle and kept their talk up. Ann had more scoring shots this quarter as she was setting up nicely under the ring. She was shooting with confidence and finished the quarter with 6 / 8 (75%). Lyndal shot 6/7 (85%). We shot 13 goals, our target of 14 or more goals was not achieved but our goal percentage was.
Ann and Josie came off for a rest in the third quarter. Halleshia took the GD bib and Claire took the GA bib. This change in the goal circle did not work as there was no communication from Lyndal to Claire. Lyndal stopped moving and talking which made it difficult for Claire to read her in the goal circle. Claire was making moves and coming out for centre passes and assisting down the court but was feeling confused once she entered the goal circle. This can easily be fixed at the next training session as Claire and Lyndal have not worked together in the ring since the start of the season.
Our defenders were working hard pressuring the ball, which was causing turnovers.
Jackie was still going strong in C, she was given instructions early in the game to ensure her running down the court was timed with the correct speed. She controlled the court and kept the flow going. She needs to talk a little more by giving instructions to her teammates.
Claire called time to have her shoulder looked at as she fell awkwardly. I decided to take Claire off and move Ann back into GA as the combination of Lyndal and Claire was not working. Lyndal stayed on as her goal accuracy was great throughout the game and her height is needed but she was advised that she needs to direct her GA in the goal ring.
This quarter we shot 14 goals. Lyndal shot 6 / 9 (66%) and Ann shot 3 /4 (75%).
The final quarter I kept Claire off to rest for C grade. Kim T came off for a well earned rest. Halleshia moved into GK.
Lyndal had a tall GK on her and this was very obvious that we were not to throw high passes into Lyndal, we kept doing it but we were getting tired and were not driving forward strong and fast enough, this is why the ball was being forced into the goal ring. 9 bad passes were thrown this quarter with Lyndal throwing away 5 of them, Kim A 3 and 1 to Jackie. Our defenders managed to intercept 4 with Ann taking 1 in the attacking end. Jackie was still running strong, hitting the ring and feeding into the goal circle. She needs to improve on her defence down the court and remember to throw around her player and not over their hands.
We shot 12 goals, 11/14 to Lyndal (78%), Ann shot 3 from 5 (60%).
Overall a great game, we pushed our passes, came forward strongly for the ball which was great to see. We know how to win, we just need to all do our jobs and play as a team.
Goal accuracy
Lyndal – 34 / 41 = 82% - Goal achieved
Ann –15 / 21 = 71% - Goal achieved
49 goals from 62 attempts - An overall goal percentage of 79%.

Round 11
Winchelsea Blues (23) Vs Geelong West (28)
We needed the four points today to be a chance to make finals but unfortunately it did not go our way.
We started the game off well, shooting the first 6 goals which was a great start until we took our foot off the pedal and the ‘want’ for the ball declined. Many of our passes were not strong enough, players stopped coming forward for the ball and the leads were just too weak. We have been practicing leads at training but this was not too evident on court.
We were calling for the ball from behind our opponent, which caused poor passes and an easy intercepts for Geelong West. Ann was assisting around the top of our ring but the pass to Lyndal were either too big that went out of court or not high enough. Stangely enough we were leading by 2 goals at the end of the quarter. Lyndal shot 6 /8 and Ann shot 1 /3.
Going into the second quarter, we needed to make some changes in the hope that we could start leading from the front and not from behind. Claire M took the WA bib and Beth the WD bib. Kim A and Tilly had a rest and were given instructions to watch the game to work out what they needed to do if they went back on. Kim A needed to come forward, hit the top of the goal circle and direct where she wanted the ball. Tilly needed to stay with her player and block her from driving down the court.
Claire was instructed to make forward moves and make second leads while Beth was asked to hustle her player and make it hard for her to get to the top of the ring. They both did a great job at doing this.
Jackie was looking tired, as she was getting caught calling from behind and not making explosive moves down the court. Steph and Kim T were working hard on their players but were leaving too much room for an easy lead. They needed to play tight one on one netball for their opponents to make mistakes.
We shot 5 goals to Geelong West’s 8, we lost this quarter and needed to fight back.
Jackie, Ann, Josie and Claire M came off in the third quarter. Tilly took the C bib, Halleshia moved into GA, Steph went into GD and Kim A went back into WA. We scored the first goal, and lost our next centre. Geelong West had 2 runs of 3 goals in a row. This was because of our poor passes and poor decision making. We need to look down the court and not sideways. We need to work harder to get the ball if we want to win games. Our shooting accuracy let us down also this quarter, Lyndal shot 5 from 8 and Halleshia shot 1 from 5. There was not really any flow down the court as we were still not coming in front and snatching the ball in. Geelong West were too good with their aggression for the ball shooting 9 goals from 14.
Going into the final quarter down by 4 goals, we needed to pick up our intensity and ensure our passes were strong and direct. We needed to pick up our talk and play basic netball. We scored the first 3 goals which was what we needed. Jackie went on the court in WA, I was hoping that if she played a role with shorter leads and not tiring by running up and down the court, this would be a benefit to the team in using her energy with her passes and short leads to the ring as she had just arrived back from Bali. Kim A moved to WD in the hope that she would be able to stay tight on her player, she did a good job. Ann moved back into GA. Lyndal shot 5 from 11 and Ann did not put up a shot but assisted well around the ring.
This was not a loss we thought we would leave the courts with today, we need to move on and concentrate on next weeks game against Anakie.
Goal accuracy
Lyndal – 20 / 34 = 58% Ann – 2 / 5 = 40% Halleshia – 1 / 4 – 25%
23 goals from 40 attempts - An overall goal percentage of 57%.
Best players:
3 – Beth
2 – Kim T

Round 10
Winchelsea Blues (52) Vs Corio (4)
We went into today’s game with Jackie and Les away and Kellie injured. We needed a hand in the mid court so we called upon Claire Round from C grade to help out.
Lyndal and Ann started in goals, Ann was feeling a little more confident as she had played the same position last week. She was asked to come out for centre passes and also work around the front of the goal circle to create options for the feeders. Claire worked the ball down the court well with Kim A and were able to feed the shooters the balls they were asking for. The teams goal for the quarter was to get the first goal in and to look after their passing. We achieved our goals. The ball flowed nicely down the court and we applied great defensive pressure down the court. We shot 19 from 26 attempts, which was a fantastic first quarter.
The team was playing well and all players were doing their jobs, in the second quarter Tilly was asked to apply pressure over her WA and to make it hard for her to hit the goal circle, Halleshia was told to hustle her player down the court and slow her from player from entering the goal circle. Kim T was told to play front on her GS and to be in position for rebounds, Claire’s job was to ensure her centre passes were on and she was to run through the middle channel down the court. Lyndal was to be a holding shooter and direct where she wanted to receive the ball. Kim A job was to get out cleanly for the centre passes and hit the top of the ring with enough speed to lose her player. This quarter we went missing, we lost our intensity, we were flat and stopped making leads for the ball and stopped offering a second time. Lyndal’s goal accuracy let the team down shooting 4 from 13 attempts. Ann shot 1 from 3. Lyndal needed to come off to reset and watch the game to prepare for the last quarter.
In the third quarter, Ann moved to GS, Halleshia moved from GD to GA, Claire R had a rest and Claire ,Mawson took her bib, Beth came on in GD. This quarter the intensity improved, Beth was fantastic in defence experiencing senior netball for the first time, her ball skills are strong and accurate and her concentration on court is fantastic. Claire was great in centre allowing the court to flow nicely by using short passes instead of forcing the ball down when it was not needed. This courter we had a run of 4 goals, then a run of 9 goals which was fantastic to see that we had 2 junior netballers on the court at the same time. Our defensive pressure was so strong which was causing Corio to throw weak passes with not the best options. We shot 13 from 28 attempts, which was not good.
Lyndal came back on in the last quarter in hope that she would improve her goal accuracy, Claire R moved to GA and Connie Came on in GK giving Kim T a rest after working hard keeping her eyes up and getting her hands to the ball plenty of times. Connie, Beth and Claire M were impressive and combined well with Tilly, Kim A, Claire R and Lyndal. We made sure we looked after the ball and we did scoring 15 from 19 attempts. Lyndal’s accuracy was much better scoring 13 from 16 and Claire 2 from 3.
Overall, the players were all given a job to do and I am satisfied with what was achieved, the second quarter should have been better but we have learnt from this and know that we need to give 100% for the whole 12 mins each quarter.
Goal accuracy
Lyndal – 31 from 48 attempts = 64%
Ann – 14 from 26 attempts = 53%
Halleshia – 5 from 12 – 41%
Claire R – 2 from 3 – 66%
52 goals from 89 attempts - An overall goal percentage of 58%.

Round 9
Winchelsea Blues (31) Vs Inverleigh (26)
The game started slow with some consistent plays but with Inverleigh’s tight defence, the ball was getting cut off before it was reaching our goal circle. We shot 5 from 8 attempts compared to Inverleigh’s 8 from 14 attempts. We knew we had to work hard by making strong leads and looking after the ball.
Les and Jackie had a rest in the second quarter, Kellie came on into Centre for Jackie and Ann came into GA for Les. There were patches of slow netball where we stopped coming forward and were asking for the ball behind our player, we needed to pick this up and be more consistant if we wanted to keep up with Inverleigh.
Time was called and Kellie needed to have her calf attended to. Kim J came off for a rest, Jackie moved into C and Kellie moved to WA.
Kellie was strong in the centre court offering great timed leads whilst thinking about the next pass that was going to happen. Her ball placement to Lyndal in the ring was fantastic, although if the pass was not the correct one, it would have been intercepted by Inverleigh’s defenders. Jackie was offering for every option and moving the ball down nicely ensuring she was in front of her player and offering around the circle.
Ann’s job in GA was to make strong moves around the top of the ring and to feed Lyndal the ball with ease. It took a few minutes to find her feet but once she felt the game flow, she was moving well and creating space and options for Kellie and Jackie to feed into the ring. With Les being away for the next 3 weeks, we needed to find a replacement and it seemed to be the right decision. This quarter we scored 9 from 13 attempts which was much better.
In the third quarter, I felt the combination we had on court was working as this seemed to be our strongest team, I did not want to change it. Our defenders Kim T, Halleshia and Tilly were doing a great job hustling their players and bringing the ball out of defence. Time was called so I decided to take Tilly off for a rest as she was looking a little tired and Kim A took her spot, her job was to keep hustling the WA and not allow her to hit the circle. Kim did a good job but unfortunately this didn’t last long hurting her thumb and needed to come off. Tilly went back on in WD. Ann came off for a rest and Connie came on in GA. We had a few patches of slow netball again where we stopped coming forward, we need to remember we need to keep our feet on the pedal the entire quarter to ensure we are playing the hardest we can. This quarter we scored 7 from 12 to Inverleigh’s 7 from 15. We were leading by 1 goal at this stage with 1 quarter to go.
Our last quarter was our best quarter with great accuracy shooting 9 from 10 goal, having a run of 6 from Lyndal. Unfortunately Les didn’t come back on the court but the combination with Ann and Lyndal was working so well, I could not remove them from the court. Tilly came into the game in the last quarter and took 2 nice clean intercepts which caused the team to get some adrenalin pumping. We had tight defence all down the court and combined well as a team. With 2 minutes to go, Kellie took a pass and landed with a little twist and felt her knee go, turns out she has torn her ACL which is devastating for not only herself but the team as she is a massive asset.
Overall a fantastic effort by the girls to push through the last quarter with injuries to come away with a 5 goal win. Thank you again to Connie for joining the team at late notice.
Goal accuracy
Lyndal – 27 from 36 attempts = 75% Les – 0 from 1 attempt
Ann – 3 from 4 attempts = 75% Connie – 1 from 2 – 50%
An overall team percentage of 72%.

Round 8
Winchelsea Blues (40) Vs East Geelong (19)
This game all players were given the instruction to play a short and sharp game. East Geelong (EG) scored the first 3 goals due to a missed shot from us and an intercept from East Geelong that they were successful converting goals for them on the board. We were overthrowing balls and not looking at our first short options. Luckily we managed to work it out and score the next 7 and keep East Geelong to only 3 for the quarter. This was a huge help from the outstanding defence by Kim T, Josie M and Tilly Campana being able to read the play well. Lyndal scored 4 from 5 and Les 3 from 6.
Les came off for a rest and to have her calf seen to as it was not feeling 100%, Halleshia took the GA bib, Tilly went into C, Kellie took the WA bib and Kim. A took the WD bib. These changes were made in the hope to minimize the forced passes that were going into our goal circle. Lyndal was not moving in the ring enough or dictating to Les, Kim J & Kellie where she wanted the ball placed. This quarter showed an improvement as the girls were playing as a team and communicating more which stopped the overthrows and fumbles. This quarter we shot 10 from 13 to East Geelong’s 5 from 9. We had a nice run of 6 in a row which was great to see.
After having a short break at half time, the team was pumped up and ready to continue increasing our margin. No changes were made. The girls were told to continue their short and sharp game and they did just that. Tilly called time with 5 mins to go which Claire and Connie from our Under 17’s team an opportunity to come on the court and experience senior netball. Claire went into Centre and Connie came on in GA giving Halleshia a rest. Claire and Connie stepped into the team without any fuss, their drive to the ball was well timed, they re-offered time and time again, Claire’s ball placement into the ring was fantastic, especially with the help of the senior girls in the team was exciting to watch from the sidelines! Kellie rolled her ankle so tilly went straight on into C and Claire moving to WA. Kellie managed to walk it out and was ready to go back on when needed. This was our best and strongest quarter scoring 14 from 17 goals and keeping East Geelong to only 4.
The last quarter I again kept the same line up as the girls were playing well, the defensive pressure down the court was great, Lyndal was still dictating where she wanted the ball with the assistance of Connie in goals. Our short and sharp ball movement was working and our intensity was still strong. Claire came off half way through the quarter and Kellie went back on the court. This quarter we scored 9 from 13.
Overall, our short and sharp game style today was what made the difference. All players played their part, a special thank you to Connie Royal and Claire Mawson for stepping up from Juniors to experience senior netball today, well done girls.
Goal accuracy
Lyndal – 34 from 44 attempts = 77% Les – 3 from 6 attempts = 50%
Connie – Halleshia – 1 from 2 attempts = 50% Connie – 2 from 2 – 100%
An overall goal percentage of 74%.
Best players:
3 – Kim Tenant

Round 7
Winchelsea Blues (28) Bell Post Hill (21)
Today the girls were given a job to go out there and enjoy their netball and they did just that along with taking the 4 points!!!
The game started off strong in nice weather conditions, Lyndal and Les were combining nicely in goals shooting 9 from 11 in the first quarter, 5 from 10 in the second, 8 from 11 in the third and 6 from 9 in the last. This is a total of 28 from 41 attempts – 68%. At times, Lyndal was being double teamed by both circle defenders, we did not utilise our WA and C enough by passing the ball around until we found a good option in the ring. We forced the ball into Lyndal and it it wasn’t the best option when being double teamed.
Kim A, Kellie and Tilly worked well together in the mid court, at times we struggled to communicate who was leading for the ball but the girls managed to identify this and came up with a solution together which was to talk more, make prelim moves and move our feet. Ann has come back from a toe injury, she was great in defence with her height being able to pull some balls in and pressure her player. Kim T was full of pressure and strength in defence, to improve our defence game we need to be moving our feet ready to take more tips and intercepts. Josie came on the court after half time as an impact player and was a ball of strength in defence by hustling her player and working the ball down the court.
Overall, there were some great passages of play throughout the game, which was very pleasing to see as we have been working hard on this at training.
Best players: 3 Tilly Campana 2 Lyndal O’Grady 1 Kim Tenant.
Round 6
Winchelsea Blues (34) Vs Belmont Lions (37)
It was our first quarter that let us down today! We were not applying any system work that we had practiced, we were not coming forward, we were running backwards and only calling for the ball behind our opponent, which was causing intercepts for East Belmont. There were no leads, basically we had 7 players on court that were not doing their job. We shot 3 goals to Belmont Lions 13.
After giving the team a rev up at quarter time, the girls took a deep breath and restarted.
The second quarter was a slight improvement with Tilly moving into C, Kim Johno taking the WD bib and Kellie moving to WA. The ball was moving and we started to come forward for the ball and communicate with each other. We scored 9 goals each this quarter bringing the score to 12 – 22.
We knew we could have a good go at catching up, Claire came on the court into C and Delle into WD. This quarter improved immensely, the girls started playing as a team by communicating and moving their feet. We shot 11 goals to Belmont Lions 7. We were trailing by 6 goals.
The last quarter we did not change the line up and unfortunately Tilly and Kim J did not get another chance to come back on. We scored the first 5 goals – we were in for a chance!!! The crowd started to lift and all players on court had adrenalin pumping. Belmont Lions scored the next 2 goals, then we scored the next 2. For the rest of the quarter it was goal for goal and we didn’t manage to hold onto a turnover. Belmont Lions scored the last 2 goals. If we had of started the game off better, we may have won.
Today we learnt that we need to play 4 full quarters and not turn up after the first quarter.
Best players – 3 – Lyndal O’Grady 2 – Halleshia Kirby 1 – Kellie Steere
Round 5
Winchelsea (22) V Werribee ( 17)
It was all about teamwork today! Every player had a job to do and the job was done well. We had a full bench which allowed us to rotate fresh legs.
Unfortunately we were without Lyndal O'Grady today, Amanda Partridge, Lesley Matheison and Halleshia Kirby combined beautifuly in the goal circle shooting 22 from 35 attempts. We were able to keep posession of the ball in the terrible weather with our strong mid court from Kim Allen, Kellie Steere and Holly McFarlane. Defensively Josie McDonald, Kim Tennant, Tilly Campana and Ann Morgan worked hard pressuruing Werribee to make easy mistakes down the court.
Amanda - moved very well in the circle and shot very well.
Halleshia - Such a strong player which her team mates had alot of trust to get the job done.
Lesley - controlled the game well creating space in the goal third.
Holly - her height and agility creating turnovers down the court was great, great feeding into the goal circle.
Kellie - great positioning around the ring and leads which were well timed creating an easy flow down the court.
Kim A - some great plays bringing the ball into the goal circle, great defencive pressure in WD.
Tilly - excellent defending down the court and applying much pressure to interrupt her opponent's game flow.
Josie - fantastic pressure on her opponent all game.
Kim T - consistency throughout the whole game
Ann - great pressure over the ball and defending down court considering she has a toe injury.
BEST: 3 HALLESHIA 2 HOLLY 1 KIM T
Round 4
Winchelsea Blues (24) Vs North Geelong (36)
Our 3rd loss for the season which is not what we wanted today. The game didn't start off as strong as we had hoped. We scored 7 off 10 attempts which was not too bad. North Geelong had a quick run of 4 goals in a row caused by turnovers from Ann, Kim, and Lyndal. Ann was not keeping up with her player and found it hard to dodge as she had a toe injury. Josie came on the court to attempt to shut down the GD and did a great job. Kim Tennant in GK pressured her player well.
We won the second quarter scoring 9 goals (only missing 4) to North Geelong’s 5. This quarter saw Tilly strong in WD. Kim T, Josie, Claire and Kim A all took intercepts. Claire was fantastic in C with reading the next pass well.Kellie took the WA bib in the third quarter, her strong leads helped but we couldn’t convert the goals only scoring 4 from 8. This is evident that we were getting tired in the goal circle. We also threw the ball away a few times trying to force the ball into the ring. Our defence recovery slowed which allowed some easy goals for North Geelong.
Going into the final quarter 3 goals down (20-23) we knew we had to work hard to get the 3 goals back and control our game to not allow any turnovers against us. This did not happen, the game got away from us and we only scored 6 from 11 attempts. All players were tired and we just didn’t have enough in us to pull through.
Overall the game was physical and our fitness again let us down in the last quarter. We broke to a max run of 3 goals in the 3rd quarter then allowed the GS to shoot a run of 3 and another 4 goals in the final quarter.
Tilly had a fantastic game playing very tight on her opponent taking her out of the play alot. Claire Round and Kim Allen had a great game controlling the court with Kellie helping out with her strong leads. Our shooters, Lyndal and Les worked well together, they had plenty of opportunities but couldn’t convert all into goals.
Next week we will have a full bench so we have enough legs to carry out a whole game with full fitness.

ROUND 3
Winchelsea Blues (27) Vs Bannockburn (37)
Our second night game for the season! The first quarter started off with Kim T in goals as Lyndal missed training and the warm up. Thompson scored the first 2 goals of the game, we then managed to use our system and score our first goal. Thompson then came out aggressive and wanted the ball more to be able to score the next 3 goals. We threw a few bad passes, stepped and dragged our feet. Thompson’s WA was experienced and fast, we identified that we needed to cut her drives. Ann, Josie and Tilly were working hard down the defence end but struggled the defence throw ins.
The second quarter Kim T moved to defence and Lyndal came on in GS. Lyndal shot 9 from 14 attempts while Lesley shot 2 from 4. Even though we shot 11 goals, we were still 6 goals behind at half time.
Our drives were improving with Claire working hard up and down the court. We were not blocking the WA which allowed her to take almost every second pass. Kim A had a rest and Kellie stepped on the court to keep controlling the WA position. Ann came into goals to try to make a difference but this did not work.
The score blew out to a 12 goal difference at 3 quarter time shooting 4 from 12 goals.
Alisha took the WD bib to try to stop the WA’s drive and to show Tilly what is needed to be done in future games. Kellie took the C bib to give Claire a rest. Alisha started blocking the WA’s drives which caused her to be very frustrated and put her off her game. We continued to make minor errors, and we slowed down due to our lack of explosive fitness and communication. With Lyndal back in goals, we shot 10 from 11 this quarter but this was not enough.
A disappointing game as we could have won if we came forward for the ball more, were able to cut the WA’s drive earlier and our goal accuracy to be better. Overall we shot 28 goals from 51 attempts. This is 55%. We need to improve on this!
We need to ensure we get to games on time and are ready to warm up together as a team.

ROUND 2
Winchelsea Blues Vs Thompson
A great strong start from D grade. Saw the girls take their lead early in the game and keep it until half time. Les Matheison’s experience led the attacking end well and strong drives from Kim Allen had the balls going into Lyndal. Ann, Josie and Tilly were combining well to defend with plenty of pressure. Claire’s strong drives through the centre with the 2 ends joining well.
Unfortunately we could not hold this for the second half.
