We are Werribee Centrals Sports & Youth Club Inc. Club was formed in 1969 after the amalgamation with the Werribee Football Club was disbanded.
Werribee Centrals compete in Senior and Junior Football, Senior & Junior Cricket and Senior & Junior Netball. The football and Netball sides are in competition in the Victorian Country Football League in the Geelong & District Football & Netball League. Junior Football are affiliated with the Western Region Football League. The Cricket sides play in the Vic Turf Cricket Assoc and the local Churches competitions. Cricket compete in both turf and synthetic wicket competitions.
The club was originally just a senior Football club which competed in the now disbanded Western Suburbs League. Centrals colours were then Black & Yellow or Richmond colours or if you can remember the old Werribee VFA colours. After winning three premierships in first division in the Western Suburbs League the club agreed to affiliate with the Geelong & District Football League and play under the VCFL Banner. This move was not in agreeance with everyone and many thought the move to a country league would not be accepted by suburban people. This did not prove correct and in the very first year after joining the Geelong Competition, Centrals won both Senior and Reserves Premierships in the GDFL Second Division. The club also changed its playing and club colours to Green and Gold to seperate itself from the normal Werribee colours.
To make this change complete the Centrals went from being the Tigers of course to the Centurions. This name or emblem was considered to be a strong character for a strong club.
This was not the only move the club had to make with Werribee Council insisting on a move from Soldiers Reserve to the unused grounds of Galvin Park in Shaws Road Werribee. This reserve had two grounds but also Turf wickets which more suit the senior body of the club.
In 1976 the Cricket section of the club was formed to ensure continued occupation of the clubs facilities for the whole 12 months. The cricket section commenced with just one side in the old Sunshine District competition but quickly grew to where it is today. The cricket section has now five senior and seven junior sides in competition.
Netball was commenced in 2002 when the Geelong & District Football League joined the VCFL agreed afiliation to have netball in competition. Centrals started with two sides which quickly grew to three senior sides A, B & C Grades with B & C Grades winning the premierships in their inaugural year. A great achievement.
