Seniors.
The seniors started the season under coach Rolf Messinger and Assistant Coach, John Patterson (Later resigned and replaced by Don McKenzie) on Tuesday 12th February. Players were so keen that an additional practice session was held on Sunday, 17th February. Practices at the present time are getting into full swing, and all players and intending players MUST attend. All persons should remember that recruiting does not cease with the Recruiting Officer. Any names and assistance you can give is needed.
Under 16’s. Training commenced today for the Under 16’s under Coach Laurie Anset. Laurie has had considerable coaching experience with boys of this age at Lara and other clubs, but he will need a lot of assistance. If any parents are interested in the positions of managers, trainers, etc, would you kindly let Laurie or the Committee know. Training was followed with a “Get to know the Coach” when lemonade and other things were enjoyed by all. A pie night will be arranged shortly for players and anybody interested, details of which will be announced shortly.
Under 13’s. As with the Under 16’s, training also officially commenced today. Michael Allen and Bill Cumberland as Under 13 Coaches have been hard at work with some of the boys even at this stage. As with the Under 16’s, these boys enjoyed the festivities after training tonight. A function will be organized shortly in which parents, boys, coaches and committee will have a chance to meet one another and discuss the Season. Parents are needed in many roles required to maintain junior football sides.
Head Trainer. Mr L (Lou) Poortier has kindly consented to give his valuable and knowledgeable services as head trainer. Few clubs in Geelong would be as fortunate to have such a qualified person looking after players, particularly in junior boys. Peter King will be the Assistant Trainer, and he is also experienced in this field. The Club has taken the utmost trouble to see that proper equipment is available to our Trainers, and it is hoped that everyone around the Club will help them in this vital work.
