Coaching Coup for Zebras – New Technical Director Giancarlo Belviso appointed

Brunswick Zebras FC is delighted to announce the appointment of Giancarlo Belviso as the club’s new Technical Director.

President Carlo Carli said that Giancarlo will provide the club’s coaches with an invaluable resource.  “Giancarlo brings us a great level of technical expertise but, importantly, a commitment to seeing everyone improve.  This will benefit all our coaches, and therefore, all of our players.”

Giancarlo is excited about taking on this new challenge. “I am honoured to be back at the club and I am looking forward to the challenges of the role and the opportunity of working with and supporting all the coaches.”

Giancarlo will make contact with all coaches in one way or another over the course of pre-season but makes it clear that the door is open for coaches to contact him directly to discuss their teams, training and matches.

About Giancarlo….

Giancarlo Beliviso has completed qualifications in both community and advanced coaching. Giancarlo holds an FFA/AFC C Licence (Senior) and is in the final stages of his FFA/AFC B Licence practical assessment. He has coached senior women at a range of clubs across Melbourne, including a previous stint at Brunswick Zebras, so he is well aware of the club and its culture and history.

Previously, Giancarlo has worked for Football Federation Victoria, including a role as an Assistant/Development Coach at the National Training Centre (NTC) with the U17 NTC Girls. In this role, Giancarlo was privileged to learn from Head Coach Joe Montemurro, previously a W-League winning coach and A-League Assistant Coach at Melbourne City FC and now the Manager of the Arsenal FC Women’s team in the English Women’s Super League. Giancarlo has also been involved with the delivery of the FFV’s Skills Acquisition Program (SAP) for Girls which aims to enhance the technical skills of talented players at an early age.

Through his work at the NTC, Giancarlo was given the opportunity to take on a voluntary role at Melbourne City FC as a Performance Analysis Assistant and has been fortunate to have worked in this capacity across all the club’s teams, assisting with match day video analysis for the club’s coaches and players as part of their game preview / review processes.

Giancarlo follows A.C.R. Messina (Italy), Melbourne City and, in recent times, Arsenal Women, but is most passionate about the Italian National team. So, no World Cup fever for Giancarlo this year, though naturally he will follow Australia's progress in Russia.
Outside football Giancarlo is experienced in the Design and Architecture fields and has a PhD in Design from Monash University that involved film analysis, production design and animated filmmaking.

About the Technical Director Role…

At Brunswick Zebras FC the Technical Director will work with all teams and their coaches, using the FFA National Curriculum as the framework for coach and team development.
The role will take ownership of the direction and development of the football coaching programs within the club. The position will focus on providing positive advice and technical assistance to further the design and development of the technical and tactical quality of the club’s football across all competitive teams.

The role will oversee coaching and the development of a sustainable, structured training program in accordance with the advancing FFA Vision and Philosophy and utilising the four session components as a guide. The position will aim to harness the skills of all current coaches and endeavour to improve in all areas.

The long-term aim is to provide coaches with technical-tactical support during the Game Training phase and to develop the training program for players progressing to Performance Phase football. This will involve growing the club’s inclusive culture and enhancing the quality of the training sessions for players across all teams to develop as the future of talented football in the club.

Giancarlo has already begun working with the coaches to design the details of a long-term coaching template for the on-going development of the club’s coaching process. The immediate priority will be to drive the ambition of the Senior Men’s and Women’s teams to improve their league position and the quality of their match day performances.
