Swans Impressive at Masters

Game 1 vs Kawana

From the opening whistle a very competitive and mobile Kawana team had us under the pump with a couple of big boppers putting plenty of pressure on our line.  Lead by our Captain Matty Hasted, and with backup from Darryl Kerson & Dennis Bailey, a very strong defensive display kept us in touch.  Showcasing his skills with a great show & go, Darryl Johnson opened our account, scoring a great individual try.  Kawana hit back straight away but our boys regrouped, Ken Rogers & Darren Doldissen putting pressure on the attack & forcing the error.  With Johnson again orchestrating the attack, Allan McKinnon was rewarded for effort, stretching out to score under the posts.  His try was converted by Mick Jeffery who proved not only to be a great defender but a handy kicker as well.

The second half proved to be heavy going with Kawana muscling up in defence, but to our credit the boys remained composed & completed our first set when Darren (golden boots winner) Levi turned Kawana around with a kick down field.  Rangi Bell & big Russ Maher combined in defence, forcing the Kawana attack into error yet again.  With ball in hand Jamie Dennis & Rob O'Brien asked plenty of the defence, putting Darren Potts -who played with injury all day - into space.  Brett Frankcom came on & his combination with the likes of Chris Lockhart proved to be a handful for the defence.  Great defensive efforts from Paul Jacobsen & Ian Bellamy proved to be the difference in the dying stages, the game played in the right spirit and fittingly finishing with a 10 all draw.

Game 2 vs Pomona-Cooran

The game brought forward without warning, we were caught a little underprepared for the start, and a very sharp & well drilled Pomona-Cooran skipped away to an early lead thanks to a clever kicking game.  Although we regrouped & were competitive for most of the game, the start really set our opposition up and they controlled very well.  A consolation try to John Ross late in the game was a highlight.

Special thanks to our medical team Dianne O'Donnell & Ryana Duxorth who kept the "boys" on the paddock somehow with plenty of TLC.

Thanks also to our water runners Tim Ross & Ben Jacobsen who provided plenty of inspiration & encouragement when we really, really needed it.
