Round 10 kicked off on Friday night with games being contested between TEDAS and Cumberland Park, with the remainder of the round being played on Saturday in cold and wet conditions.
In the Under 10s, the close game of the round was between City Juniors and Southside. Although the end result probably does not reflect a close game with Southside always in control. The kids from City Juniors never gave up and continued to try for 4 quarters in the freezing cold conditions. With only 4 rounds to go for the season, the top three look settled, with Pax Hill and Police Boys having a realistic shot of displacing Combined Saints from 4th on the ladder.
In the Under 12s, ninth placed Police Boys took the game right up to the fourth placed West End.. West End jumped out to an early lead thanks to two goals in the first quarter whilst Police Boys only managed a behind. The second quarter was very even, with both teams adding 1 goal 3 behinds, giving West End the lead by 9 points at the long break. West End came out and kicked 3 goals to 1 in the third quarter to extend their lead to 21 points. Police Boys came out firing in the last quarter, adding three straight goals, but this was not enough and went down by 10 points in a very encouraging display of footy. Cumberland Park took the game right up to the 3rd placed Team, TEDAS on Friday night in a hard fought contest in cold conditions. The pressure is mounting on three teams who will fight it out for a spot in the finals, hoping to get that 4th spot on the ladder over the next four weeks.
Round 10 in the Under 14s saw some very lop-sided results unfortunately. The close game was Pax Hill, 2nd and Glengarry 10th. Pax Hill opened the game with 9 scoring shots in the first quarter, but only 1 was straight. The second quarter was a more even affair, but Pax Hill still lead. In the third term, Glengarry outscored Pax 5 goals to 4 to narrow the gap only marginally. Glengarry was kept scoreless in the last quarter, whilst Pax Hill added a further five goals to run out winners by 56 points. This is a very close competition with only four rounds to go, so the top six all need to continue to win games if they hope to be part of the finals action.
In the Under 16s, Southside managed to upset West End, and Churchill knocked over TEDAS in some good games of footy. The loss by West End creates opportunity for both Southside and Combined Saints to have a crack of sneaking into the top four and see some finals action.
